JobKeeper changes

The treasurer (Josh Frydenberg) announced last week an extension to the eligibility of employees to the JobKeeper payments. While they have not been written in to law yet it should just be a formality.

Employees as at 1 July 2020 will now be eligible for the JobKeeper payments. This is a huge relief for those that were in the process of changing employers when JobKeeper was announced and missed out on being eligible. 

The change will commence from 3 August, so will apply to JobKeeper fortnight 10 payments and forward.

Under the one in all in principle of JobKeeper, employers will need to review all employees not receiving the JobKeeper currently and assess whether they need to be added to the JobKeeper payments for the fortnight 3/8/2020 to 16/08/2020. Once an employer identifies relevant employees, they will need to have them complete a nomination form and ensure they receive at least $1,500 in that fortnight and the following ones.
